What do you want your life to stand for? Values are intentional qualities of action that join together a string of moments into a meaningful path. Connecting to your values means deciding who you want to be and then making moment by moment choices that align with those hopes and dreams you have about the sort of person you could be.
Research suggests that spending even a few minutes considering your values has some significant benefits including:
- Coping better with stress (we produce less cortisol in a stressful situation if we have thought about our values first)
- Reduced burnout
- Improved motivation for activities that relate to what we value
- Improved performance
- Greater happiness
- Reduced defensiveness
- Becoming more accepting of different points of view and new information
- Increased feelings of connection to others
In Your Life On Purpose, John Forsyth, Matt Mackay and Georg Effert write:

There are really only two ways to go here. Both are choices. Only you can make the choice to live your life on purpose. Will you?’
